All appearances are not different from your own mind
- Take any object of experience, a sight, a sound, a thought, a feeling
- Over and over again, let go of any label or description of it until you can rest in the experience of the object
- Ask, "What is experiencing this?" For a moment, you will see.
- As soon as you start thinking, stop, and repeat the process, until you can rest in the seeing.
Mind is empty
- Rest attention on the breath. Then ask, "What rests on the breath?" As soon as thoughts arise, stop, and return attention to the breath and ask again.
- Let a thought arise in your mind and ask, "What thinks?" Look directly.
- What knows when the mind is resting? What knows when the mind is thinking? Again, you will experience a shift.
- As soon as you start thinking, stop, and repeat the process, until you can rest in the shift.
Emptiness is not different from presence
- Mind is clear and empty. Is the clarity different from the emptiness? Is the emptiness different from the clarity? Look and see.
- Look at what knows mind is empty and clear. Whenever a thought such as "Mind is empty" arises, look at the thought.
- Rest in the looking.
Presence is freedom
- Don't be distracted.
- Don't try to make anything happen.
- Don't work at anything.
- Whenever disturbances arise, look directly at what experiences the disturbance.
- Just recognize whatever arises for what it is, a movement in mind.
